World Trip: 4. Brazil – Carnaval in Vitoria

Having lost my blog from back then I discovered that a lot of entries still exist on Facebook. So here is what I have recollected:
February 10th, 2010: Carnaval in Vitoria
After a Thursday clubbing night in Vitoria it was finally Carnaval weekend! Late but ultimately we received our costumes. The event started already Friday at around 10pm but we needed to sleep a little bit and then hurried to the venue. It was already very busy with all the samba schools and groups getting prepared for their turns.

Remark 2018: Watch where we are – the proof from Brazilian television:

Each of the Samba schools of the region had one hour to present itself. They composed own music that was played by their own orchestra and dancing by the various groups. Ultimately every school got rated and a winner declared.
Remark 2018: The festivities went on all night until the next noon but at 8 am we were so exhausted we had to go to bed.

World Trip 2010: 3. Brazil – Vitoria: Inside the Samba School

February 6th, 2010: Inside the Samba school
Friday afternoon we went to the Samba school of Vila Vilha do get our costumes for the carneval parade. The place was bustling with activity.
It was not really clear to us what was happening and why, but in the end we managed to get our dresses.

Barcelona Exclusive Tours

Happy Sant Jordi!

Sant Jordi is an important festive day in Catalonia celebrated to honor St. George. It is also known as the Day of the Rose or Day of the Book. Each year on April 23 men traditionally make a gift to their sweetheart in the form of a rose, women give a book to their beloved one – “a rose for love and a book forever.” This is why you will encounter a vast amount of rose and book sellers on the streets of Barcelona throughout this day.

Barcelona Winter Impressions

We kicked off the New Year in Barcelona with a lunch on the beach on January 3 with incredibly sunny 22 degrees. Our favourite beach restaurant: Ca La Nuri.

We even had two more days above 22 degrees and a couple of mild days – but finally rain came after the extreme dry autumn where we were close to water rationing.

Michael joined a running group in January whereas Chris went back to his roots and joined a ping pong club. Also we are back to Salsa classes which are a lot of fun.

Next to those activities January was very sportive. Michael went 3 times a week swimming and summed up 20 km. I went 3 times per week to the gym and swimming once a week. All those activities combined with an adjustment in our nutrition led to quick results: loss weight and and building up muscles.

But no only did we take care of our bodies but also our minds. Michael intensified his Spanish classes and we spend a lovely evening in the Palau de la Musica. For Christmas I got tickets for the New Year´s concert – Strauss´popular waltzes and marches.

Body, mind, culture – January was also the month of partying… (to be continued)
